About the Author

 

 

Shay Abigail is one of four daughters. When she was younger, she wanted to pursue a career in acting and modeling. After some time, the demands and spontaneity related to such a career became overwhelming. Her sisters encouraged her to volunteer at a camp to work with individuals with special needs. Since then, Shay has turned her focus to education and service. She now has her BA in American Sign Language and is continuing to build her teaching certifications to include Special Education and Education of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. Shay hopes My Name is Maya will give a voice to all children, despite language or ability. To the super parents, Shay hopes her book will serve as a resource and teaching tool about diversity, inclusion, and acceptance.
